I have been writing songs since I was 13 years old.
In this time the songs i have written have taken many twists and turns and i can confidently say there is no one way, or right way, to write songs. this is the approach i take in my songwriting workshops.
people are encouraged to find the song within themselves no matter what it sounds like.
workshops also include practical songwriting tools such as how to approach the mechanics of songwriting, including basic song structure, topics, themes, lyric writing and melody construction.
I have given two song writing workshops so far. i would like to do more
June 2006 at Ladyfest Cardiff
August 2007 at Ladies Rock Camp in London. That weekend was one of the most incredible and real experiences of my life: taking women (aged 18 and upwards) with no experience of writing music and being a band and turning them into rock stars in less than 3 days. Anything is indeed possible. Ladies Rock included workshops about feminism, zine making, recording music, the history of women in music, as well as all the workshops for campers that trained them in voice, performance and instrument instruction. Definitely a peak in the d.i.y feminist cultural activism of this century (and indeed any century).
