In March 2010 I set up HammerOn Press, a publishing and information initiative that aims to creatively support grassroots publishing projects.
HammerOn Press publishes books that break down boundaries between academia, art and popular culture.
So far HammerOn has only published one book, Adventures in Kate Bush and Theory by yours truly. For the immediate future publications will be contingent on gaining the support of grant giving bodies but there are plans in the pipeline. Watch this space!
In March 2010 I facilitated the workshop Self-Publishing and Liberation at the Women's Library in London. The workshop combined historical testimony from Gail Chester and Amanda Sebestyen, who spoke about their involvement with publishing collectives in the Women's Liberation Movement, with creative exercises that armed participants with the inspiration and tools to start publishing their own material. An archive of materials, photos and testimony from the workshop can be accessed here.
If you are interested in me faciliatating a workshop about self-publishing for you please do get in touch to discuss the possibilities.
